HI, I’M AAKASH
orionmade is my journey from sustainability consulting to woodworking - making cozy, everyday functional essentials. I also teach beginner carving /whittling and foundational woodworking courses in Goa and have taught 100+ students so far. I offer the following courses:
Woodworking Courses
Artisanal Woodworking 1-on-1 (most popular)
Who is it for? Someone who wants to create studio quality furniture or woodwork’s with a minimal set up (at home or a small space and without any bigger machines). To do that this course focuses on learning to work with jigs. Jigs are equipment woodworkers make to unlock new capacities from different tools.
Curriculum (42 hour / 7 day course with tailored curriculum)
Understanding basics of wood science and wood movement.
Safe use of all hand tools (saws, files, measuring tools)
Safe use of 7 handheld power tools (jig saw, orbital sander, finishing sander, palm router, angle grinder, impact drills, and power driver).
Understanding design and joinery
Designing and making of a large project (see reference image above).
Visit to the saw mill to learn sourcing and milling of wood.
Cost
INR 38,500 (5,500 per day (6 hours) for 7 days)
Includes access to space, use of tools and machines, and 1-on-1 training.
Excludes cost of wood for your project - that is paid directly to the saw mill.
Add-on days (as per your needs) INR 5,000 per day (6 hours).

Apprentice Woodworking 1-on-1
Who is it for? Someone who wants to get started with basic tools and fundamentals. Someone who wants to explore but not get into a full course at the moment.
Curriculum (24 hour / 4 day course - fixed curriculum)
Understanding basics of wood science and wood movement.
Safe use of all hand tools (saws, files, measuring tools)
Safe use of 4 handheld power tools (jig saw, orbital sander, palm router, drill machine)
Making of a simple 2 dimensional project from a pre-selected list of projects (see reference image on the right)
Doesn't include:
Learning to design a 3 dimensional project
Learning to make and Use jigs. Jigs are equipment woodworkers make to unlock new capacities from tools.
Joineries for assembling 3 dimensional projects
Visit to the saw mill to learn sourcing and milling of wood.
Cost
INR 22,000 (5,500 per day (6 hours) for 4 days)
Includes access to space, use of tools and machines, cost of wood for your project and 1-on-1 training.
Add-on days (as per your needs) INR 5,000 per day (6 hours).
Can you extend to the full course?
Yes, these 4 days have the same curriculum as the first 4 days of the 7 day course. So, if you want, you can extend. However, it depends on my availability if I have commitments then you may need to choose different dates.

Power Carving 1-on-1
Foundational 12 hour / 2 day
Covers:
Learning to use a handheld power tool to carve and shape wood.
5 different bits for sanding, cutting, bulk material removal, fine carving and buffing.
Understanding the basics of wood grain (softness, texture, etc)
Making of a small power carved art piece (see reference images)
Cost
INR 12,000 (including cost of wood for your project)
Add-on days (6 hours): INR 4,000 per day subject on my availability
